Position Overview
The Shop Foreman will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in the setup, operation and care of machining and milling tools. The shop foreman is also expected to be highly organized and have excellent communication skills and is expected to be able to anticipate and address challenges running the shop floor. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to perform the following:
Duties And Responsibilities
- Plan, layout and construct a wide variety of semi-complex jigs and fixtures, working from engineering drawings or CAD.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
- Perform a variety of machine shop operations on such machines as a lathe, milling machine, grinder, sander, etc.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety.
- Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED. (Required)
- At least one year’s experience as a shop foreman or similar
- Experience reading blueprints.
- Ability to direct the operation of a complex productions unit which determines size, shape, analysis and physical property of the product
- Understanding of work optimization techniques.
- Good knowledge of the applicable safety regulations and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership abilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Journeyman status or 4-year trade school graduate in machine tool and die
- Tool and fixture design in drafting or CAD
- General knowledge of molds and molding processes
- CNC machine experience
